What We Do viBe programs

Our programs have evolved since our first project, Say It How It Is in Summer 2002. Continuing in the tradition of our beginning, all of viBe’s programs are created and take direction from the interests and needs of our viBe Girls. All viBe programs are FREE and open exclusively for high school girls ages 13-19.

viBeStages: our core program, a collaboration performance experience where girls work together to write and perform a spectacularly original show with uncensored dramatic text, poetry, songs and dance.

viBeSolos: individual girls each write and perform her own courageous “one-girl-show” workshopped and guided in collaboration with other participants and woven and performed together into a single, wondrous production.

viBeSongMakers: an ensemble of girls express themselves through song as they learn about music and songwriting by writing, recording and performing original songs in collaboration with local professional musicians. The group works together to produce a compilation CD of their dazzling new music and create a live music show with a full band.

viBeApprentices: individualized job training program in professional theater where girls work "behind the scenes" on viBe productions. Girls have completed viBeApprenticeShips in assistant directing, stage management, sound design, arts administration, choreography and marketing.

viBeGirlsInCharge: an advanced leadership program where girls create and direct their own arts/education program by devising and implementing a curriculum and producing their own performance/ publication under the guidance and mentorship of viBe staff.

Girls Life Adventure: Launched in partnership with fellow non-profit, Girls Write Now, GLA produces arts-based, "life-skills" workshops and guidebooks that challenge, celebrate and explore issues such as sexuality health, body image, food, money, justice and spirituality.

viBeCreations: short term performance/ creative writing workshops and projects that empower pregnant and parenting teenage girls to explore their creative voices and build community among young mothers.

viBeXtensions: project-based workshops that are created in response to a community’s need, or at the request of a specific site, including schools and community-based organizations. Please click HERE for information on how to bring a viBeXtension workshop to your organization.
